After you have applied the carborundum to a plate, leave to dry thoroughly without touching the surface. When it is dry, brush off any loose powder with a brush. Dry carborundum can be carved, sanded, or even burnt.

MAKE A CARBORUNDUM PLATE

Choose a robust base plate to hold the carborundum. Any will do but for this method we are adding very dark tones, so it’s a good idea to start with a light toned plate such as Environmount board. Leave some clean areas to keep a variety of tonal areas – when combined with drypoint you can achieve a lovely variation of marks.
