2. Emotion Control

a. This involves the learning of breathing techniques that will help you relax and stay calm even in the face of anger. What it does is to enable you to get angry only at the mental level and keeps you safe emotionally and physically from the ill-effects of anger. You may follow this particular breathing technique even while seated upright in your office chair. However, it is preferable to do it sitting on the floor or in lying down position.

i. Sit with a straight back.

ii. Take a deep breath, completely filling your lungs.

iii. Hold on to the breath to a slow count of three.

iv. Slowly exhale to a count of six.

v. Repeat steps ii to iv, 6-10 times.

b. Emotions may also be put a rein on by distracting yourself productively. Suppose you feel like yelling at your co-worker or child for doing something you had made clear repeatedly not to do, you may distract yourself temporarily to wade over this unwanted reaction by taking time off in the rest rooms or looking at another task at the list and attend to it before addressing your colleague or child with a calmer disposition.
