Healing the heart is a gradual process of unfoldment, one layer at a time.
gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg After feeling confident and assured that we will find love, we may become anxious or doubtful, or even begin to miss our partner. After feeling really good about ourselves we may feel guilty, inadequate, or unworthy of love. Suddenly, as if for no reason at all, we may begin to feel disconnected from our warm loving feelings and instead experience an empty numbness. These are not really setbacks, but examples of progressing to the next layer of healing.
It takes time to heal a loss fully. For each two steps of progress, we may
experience one step back. Although it might seem like a setback, it really isn't. We are just getting to a deeper level of healing.

Each time we think we are through our healing, we really have just healed one layer.
gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg It is important to recognize this pattern of healing one layer at a time, otherwise we may misinterpret our progress. We may become discouraged and give up the process of deliberately exploring our feelings. Instead of coping with our loss through healing our feelings, we may seek the temporary relief of suppressing our feelings, but as a consequence suffer the symptoms of suppression for a lifetime.
FINDING OUR MISSING FEELINGS
When we experience any of the symptoms of suppression, it is because we are suppressing one or more of the four healing emotions: anger, sadness, fear, or sorrow. To heal our hurt, we must counteract a lifetime habit of suppressing certain emotions and find the missing feelings. When we have been suppressing certain feelings since childhood, it can be very difficult to recover them on our own.
Earlier today, I mistakenly closed this file without saving my work. As a result, two pages of writing that were not yet saved were lost.
Fortunately, I have a backup system that recovers any lost or deleted files. Without that backup system, I would have completely lost the unsaved material. In a similar manner, while growing up, we delete certain emotional reactions or files. Until we are able to recover these lost files, our ability to heal our hurt will be limited.
