CARVING AND LAYOUT KNIFE. A 4″ length of carbon tool steel, a 3″ length of ¼″ clear tube, a 2″ section of ⅝″ tube for guard, and a ½″ tube coupler for the handle all combine for a knife of many talents.

THE ORIGINAL SCOUT SLIDE had a staple and ring carved into the ends of the ball in cage. More time consuming than the center piece, I left them off after doing it once.

You may wish to customize your knife with a wood handle. However, a few items from the plumbing section of the hardware store shown here are quick and effective. A 3″ length of ¼″ clear tube receives the blade stem, and both sleeve inside a ½″ plastic tube coupling.
