Bird Bread Pudding

Bird food recipes are, often as not, successful variations on a theme. This recipe certainly follows in the footsteps of other bread pudding recipes that have come and gone in the cooking for birds history books. Simple to do and undoubtedly a big hit with many garden bird visitors.

Ingredients

Approx. 800g (½lb) lard or margarine

3 good cupfuls porridge oats

1 large cup currants (or raisins)

Good handful grated cheese

Good handful wild bird seed

Method

Gently melt down the lard or margarine over a medium heat. Once the fat has melted, gradually mix in the oats, followed by the currants, cheese and the wild bird seed. Combine the ingredients well, then spoon out into any suitable containers that you have spare (margarine tubs are ideal). Alternatively, form them into shapes that will fit into your sturdy wire mesh feeders.
