DOVE GRAY PRINTS

•If using optional ruler,* cut 4 strips 3½˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 33 quarter-square triangles to make 11 blocks.

Otherwise, cut 2 strips 7¼˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 9 squares 7¼˝ × 7¼˝ and cut each square in half diagonally twice to yield 36 quarter-square triangles (there will be 3 left over).

•Cut 6 strips 2˝ × width of fabric for sides of blocks.

SUBTLY PRINTED BLACK

•If using optional ruler,* cut 36 strips 3½˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 720 half-square triangles to be used as background for 120 blocks.

Otherwise, cut 36 strips 3⅞˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 360 squares 3⅞˝ × 3⅞˝ and cut each square in half diagonally to yield 720 half-square triangles.

DOTTED BLACK

•If using optional ruler,* cut 15 strips 3½˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 144 quarter-square triangles to make 48 border blocks.

Otherwise, cut 8 strips 7¼˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 36 squares 7¼˝ × 7¼˝ and cut each square in half diagonally twice to yield 144 quarter-square triangles.

•Cut 24 strips 2˝ × width of fabric for sides of border blocks.

SOLID BLACK

•If using optional ruler,* cut 15 strips 3½˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 288 half-square triangles to make 48 border blocks.

Otherwise, cut 15 strips 3⅞˝ × width of fabric; subcut into 144 squares 3⅞˝ × 3⅞˝ and cut each square in half diagonally to yield 288 half-square triangles.

•Cut 13 strips 2½˝ × width of fabric for binding.

FLYING GEESE BLOCKS

1. Create a Flying Geese unit (G-unit) by sewing 1 subtly printed black half-square triangle to each side of a color print quarter-square triangle. Make 2 more of these G-units for 1 block.
