“What has happened?” Aireena asked as Scott brought his sister into her room. “Is she all right?”

“She’s fine. She’s just a little faint. Too much wine. You will watch over her tonight?”

“Yes, sire. I will not let her out of my sight.”

“Thank you, Reena. You are very good to us.” Scott kissed his sister’s forehead and started to leave the room. “Make sure no one bothers her either, please.”

“Yes, sire. Sire,” she called him back.

“Yes.”

“Will you tell my brother I say hello?” Aireena dared ask.

“I will. Thanks again.”

“Anything for Your Excellency.” Scott left with a shake of his head and a roll of his eyes. “Oh, Princess, you are burning up. I must get some cold water and get you out of these clothes.” Aireena went to the door and told the guard what she needed. When she returned to remove Raylynn’s garments, she was shocked at what she saw. Raylynn was standing by the open window with her hair blowing in the light breeze. “My lady! You are possessed!” A soft musical note could be heard off in the distance outside. “Princess, please come back to bed. You are not well at all.”

“He begs to be free.”

“Please, Princess, you must lie down.”

“He only wants to be able to run in an open meadow.”

“You have not had anything to drink at all.”

“He wishes to be where there are no fences at all. To be able to run and jump and dance freely without worry.”

“You have not eaten anything either.”

“Reena, I have lost him, and I am losing everything else.”

“You did not touch the ceremony feast.”

“I am struggling to remember my father’s face.”

“Your uncle will be very upset.”

“It’s very hazy.”

“If you are not separate from your brother, then he cannot be king.”

“I don’t even remember if he had any facial hair or not.”

“All may be lost.”

“And I don’t even remember what my room looks like. Do I have anything on the walls? Where is my bed in contrast with the door? Is it under the window? I don’t even remember if we live in a two-story or a one-story house. Or if we even live in a house.” Raylynn was in her own world and didn’t hear Aireena at all.

“Unless you and your brother, that is, Prince Scottsdale, do not interact with each other for the rest of the week, at least until he is king.”

“There is an emptiness in my heart, Reena. An emptiness where he used to be.”

“Princess, come to bed.”

“He is not there anymore. I did what I had to do to save his life, but now I have lost him.”

“You are weak and need your rest.”

“I fear I will never get him back.”

“Come, dear.” Aireena took Raylynn’s arm and began to lead her back to her bed.

“My beloved twin is a stranger to me now.”

“Only until he is king. Then you will have him back.”

“Unless they kill him before then, and if they don’t, I will be in another kingdom with Jaysen. I have lost him.”

“It will all work out in the end.
