Chapter Eight

Bryce watched from the doorway as Claire tucked in their Little Warrior. She brushed his hair out of his eyes and placed a kiss on his cheek, explaining he would be spending a few days camping with Teddy at their uncle’s house.

“But I’ll see you too, right? You’ll come check on me?”

Claire bit the bottom of her lip and glanced at Bryce.

Bryce moved into the room and knelt next to the bed. “The next few days your mommy will stay home. When you are older, you will understand, but during a certain time year, females can’t leave the house. You know how a flower lures a bee to it with its pollen?” Ricky nodded. “Well, at this this time, your mommy will create a scent that would make all the males around come to court her, when we know she is mated to the three of us. It would create all sorts of havoc if she were to walk outside.”

Ricky got all serious. “Then I need to stay here and help protect Mommy,” he said, earning a giggle from Claire.

Claire patted hiss hand. “Ricky, it’s a time where mommies and daddies need to be together. We’re hoping to create a little sister or brother for you, like Teddy has. So, until this time ends, little ones need to visit their friends so their parents can be together.”

Ricky flew out of the covers and rushed Claire, then wrapped his arms and legs around her. “No, you can’t go.” His little body shook as he cried.

Ivan and Felix came in frowning. “What’s wrong?” Ivan asked.

“Ricky, look at Mommy,” Claire said and pulled back to wipe his tears. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be right next door too you. Nothing is going to hurt me.”

“My other mommy and daddy died when I was spending the night, adult time. You’ll go away too,” he cried, once more burying his face against her.

Claire looked at Bryce. “This isn’t going so well. Ideas?” she asked, she looked up at Ivan and Felix.

Bryce sat next to Claire on the bed and gently pulled their Little Warrior into his arms. “Ricky, I need you to listen to me, son. Do you know why we moved here to a new planet?”

Ricky shook his head, still clinging on to Claire’s hand. “She wanted to be close to her family?” He said, so very, very smart for his young age.

“Yes, that is part of the reason, but the main reason is so that what happened to your mommy and daddy can’t happen here. We are safe here away from the bad people. You know those different people who showed up tonight?” Bryce asked. “They have protected this planet so no one can would hurt us like they did before. I’ll tell you what. What if one of your uncles brings you by to see us when you wake up, and before you sleep in the real cool tents Teddy’s dad Edward got you two?”

“I can see Mommy when I wake up and before bed?” Ricky asked and Claire smiled.
