The snow is the perfect consistency. Julie packs a big hunk of snow in her hands, creating a snowball. Margaret and Leanne join her in rolling the ball in different directions, being careful to keep the ball from contacting the ground so it doesn’t pick up gravel, dirt, and twigs. The girls pack the snow as the ball increases in size. Next Leanne rolls a snowball into a head. The girls flatten the top of the large bottom ball to provide stability for the snowball head. As they position the head on top of the body, Julie suggests that they work together to create a family of snow people. Their problem of identifying one snow character that they all agree on is solved. Besides, working together is more fun, and each girl’s imagination is honored. The girls collaborate in making three snow people, each one adorned with appropriate accessories. Margaret runs inside the house to get a carrot and comes back breathless. “We didn’t have any carrots, but I found this orange funnel that will work perfectly. I’m going to call my snow person Honker.” The girls wrap scarves around the necks of their new snow friends to keep them warm.
