My Reality
Freya
The cramping had eased enough that probably Tylenol would help. I didn't want to sleep, but then again, the emotional pain was overwhelming.
I didn't want to be pregnant, but knowing I had an innocent life inside me proved something very precious to me. I was still able to form an emotional attachment and it meant I was still alive. My soul and heart weren't ready to die, and the baby saved my life. A baby that wasnât meant to be, but that didn't change the fact that I loved that baby.
I was between sleep and awake when Travis walked into my room. It was overwhelming when I realized he fell to his knees and cried. I needed to comfort him, but I was still so weak.
Slowly, I began waking up, and the drugs must have worn off, because my heart raced when I looked at him.
He didn't look well, like he hadn't slept in ages. I felt the stubble on his face and studied him, in total disbelief that he was officially a full grown man.
Once upon a time he played hockey, he was tough and always a protector, but there he was, crying. It had been a decade, but I looked in his eyes and felt like he was with me the entire time.
He wasn't acting like the young, impatient, and take charge guy I once knew. That confused me, I was waiting to hear how I really fucked up that time.
He was always right, and I should have listened to him. He knew what to do about Mike, but I kept it all a secret just as expected. That was my second mistake, my first one was ever meeting Mike again after we met the first time.
Travis was emotional, and I could see how hard seeing me was for him, but I was also seeing a mental health professional, not as much my best friend.
I kept looking at his hand, but I didn't see a ring, or a trace of it, like a tan line. I wondered what happened that night and what life was to him for the last decade, but I wasn't sure if I was ready yet.
"Is there something you need to ask?" He reached over and tucked my hair behind my ear and that one motion meant the world to me. He always did that, so I got that small reminder of the guy I always loved.
"You're going to be a daddy." I almost couldn't look at him. I just lost my baby and Kara was living the life I always wanted.
"Yes, maybe someday, not yet." He said and I turned my head to look at him.
"Kara's pregnant, I saw the photo." I was confused.
He scooted a little closer. "Kara, and her husband Frankie were expecting a son in a few months."
I didn't understand. "That's not right, Javier showed me. You married her; I know you married Kara."
He sighed. "I did, but that's something Kara and I both now understand wasn't meant for us.
