Block 12

ASSEMBLY

1. Insert 2 feature 1½˝ × 7½˝ strips in the background 7˝ × 7˝ square to create a plus-sign shape. Press toward the feature fabric.

2. Use the center of the inserted strips as your guide to trim the square into a diamond. It doesn’t have to be perfectly parallel.

3. To add feature strips on all 4 sides of the diamond, sew strips to 2 opposite sides, press, and then sew the other 2 sides. Press toward the feature fabric. Trim seam allowances of any excess fabric.

4. Cut 1 background 7˝ × 5˝ rectangle corner to corner on the diagonal, from the top right to the bottom left. Sew these triangles to opposite sides of the framed diamond. Press toward the feature fabric.

Cut the remaining background 7˝ × 5˝ rectangle corner to corner on the diagonal, from the top left to the bottom right. Sew these triangles to opposite sides of the framed diamond. Press toward the feature fabric.

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

• Background: 18˝ × WOF

• Feature (Color 5): 6˝ × WOF*

*If following the project quilt, make 3 blocks with Color 5 and 1 block with Color 9. You will need scraps of Color 9, approximately 3˝ × 8˝ or 1½˝ × 16˝ total.

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS

Background

• Cut 4 squares 7˝ × 7˝.

• Cut 8 rectangles 7˝ × 5˝.

• Cut 8 strips 2˝ × 9½˝.

Feature

• Cut 8 strips 1½˝ × 8˝.

• Cut 8 strips 1½˝ × 7½˝.
