This was, of course, the English port from which the ship had departed on her maiden voyage, and it was particularly hard hit. Most of the crew had lived in the city, and over 500 households lost at least one family member. According to the Hampshire Chronicle of April 20, almost a thousand local families were directly affected, and every street in the Chapel district lost more than one resident.
