Lastly, I drew the piece behind it, beginning from the middle, and then curved it up and around the tip.

I’ve also added simple lines to create a little dimension and texture in the leaves.

Following the “draw what you see” method, you will end up with some organic-looking botanical line drawings.

Lettering is beautiful as is, but sometimes it’s fun to give your work a little extra flair by adding embellishments. Borders, for example, frame a piece, making it more impactful or finished.

The following pages are just a few examples of ways you can add borders to your lettering. Have fun with your practice and create a word or phrase inside of each frame. When you’re finished, trace the gray part of the border to familiarize yourself with how simple some of these patterns are!
