SCORE = 2/2 Motivation

The technology motivates students to start the learning process.

Seeing actual images of another geographic location in conjunction with inquiry-based questions from the teacher can be very motivating for students to get involved in the learning goal of comparing and contrasting other cultures and communities.

SCORE = 2/2 Differentiate, Personalize, Scaffold

The technology creates supports (scaffolds) to make it easier to understand concepts or ideas (e.g., differentiate, personalize, or scaffold learning).

Viewing the authentic images from China in Google Maps makes it easier to understand similarities and differences. Further, asking their friend in China questions about living in another culture personalizes the concepts of compare and contrast.

SCORE = 2/2 Connection to Real Life

The technology creates a bridge between students’ school learning and their everyday life experiences (connects learning goals with real-life experiences).

Both live Skype video and images in Google Maps allow the students to compare and contrast another culture with their everyday lives. It definitely makes learning to compare and contrast cultures more authentic.
