Deborah Green knows what it is like to grow up with NLD. She understands the pain and isolation often associated with the disorder. While in middle school, she had trouble in math, she found it difficult to make friends, she felt clumsy, and she didn’t do well in sports. Her problems seemed to get better in high school, but returned while she was in college.

She says she spent a lot of time denying her problems. “Pretending you don’t have a learning disability when you’re dealing with it every day can be incredibly stressful.” According to Green her coping improved when she decided to attack her learning disability head on. She worked on social skills, on her visual/spatial perception, on her coordination through movement. Green is now a teacher.

She enjoys singing and playing the flute and the piano. She loves to garden, and she enjoys reading. She has also become a well-known spokesperson in the field of NLD. She lectures across the country and is currently working on a video about NLD. She is also the author of Growing Up with NLD.
