The planked deck overlays sanded and trimmed ready for fixing to the deck unit. The deck unit should be fully painted and finished before the planked deck overlay is added.

Another feature of many enclosed deck units is that their decks are wooden planked. This planking is accomplished by first making a cardboard template of the area that is traced onto a sheet of tracing paper. The tracing is taped to a flat board and the planks laid over the deck tracing with aliphatic glue. Beware that the deck planking will curl so it must be weighted down (use a flat piece of board with a sheet of wax paper between it and the deck to prevent the board from sticking to the deck) so it dries flat. Once the area is covered with planks, sand and seal them with a clear finish. Turn the planked deck over and trim to the traced line and epoxy the planked deck overlay to the insert.
