English and Polish Comments

Rheingold proposes (1993: 3) that ‘people in virtual communities do just about everything they do in real life, but we leave our bodies behind’. This quote suggests that the internet is a particular communal medium, enhancing cooperation, ‘conviviality and understanding’ (Rheingold 1993: 3). On the other hand, it is also treated as a platform of conflict and expression of negative emotions. Due to the fact that in virtual reality what we hear are only our voices, words and symbols – it is precisely the reason why this medium plays a particular role in the expression of conflict and cooperation online.

A few representative examples that are presented here have been selected from a number of various online cooperative and argumentative conflict exchange types in both languages.
