Accents for Large Men
Neckties will make the collar higher, so don't wear them unless the occasion
demands it. When they are necessary, wear a broad tie with enough thickness to
make a good, solid knot, and wear a shirt with a wide spread collar instead of a
narrow point style. The color can be bold, but the pattern should be minimal.
Other accents high on the chest help make you look full-chested rather than fat.
Pocket squares are a must any time a large man wears a jacket (and are one of the
many reasons that a large man always should wear a jacket).
Wristwatches are fine, but extravagant shoes are less desirable, and fancy belts or belt buckles that draw the eye are right out. Keeping attention at the upper limits of your body and far away from the middle is always the goal.
Style Upgrades Every Big Man Should Make
Everything we've given you so far is a lot of information, so let's take a step back and focus on some simple, practical steps. What can you do to make your wardrobe
better as a large man?
We recommend making all of the following upgrades:
Switch from Belts to Suspenders (Braces)
Belts work on some bigger men, but on many they're a lost cause.
If you're wearing the waistband of your pants below the widest point on your body,
a belted pair of pants is going to slide slowly downward no matter how tightly you
cinch it -- and the tight cinching looks bad and feels uncomfortable in the meantime.
That makes belts a bad choice for everyone with a wide belly. Fortunately, there's an alternative: switch to suspenders.
Suspenders have a couple of advantages for men with large stomachs. For one thing,
they work better -- your pants are less likely to slip. That means more comfort, a
cleaner, less slouched look, and no plumber's crack.
