ARE MIRACLES POSSIBLE?

"Do you really believe that Jonah was swallowed by a whale? And do you seriously think that Christ actually fed five thousand people from five loaves of bread and two fish?" So goes the trend and tone of many modern questioners. Surely, the questions often go, these "miracle" stories in the Bible must be merely quaint ways of 85 conveying spiritual truth and are not meant to be taken literally.

As with all questions we have about God and his existence, the beginning is to discern the root—the underlying issue involved. Otherwise we discuss the twig, not the deeper branch. This is especially true

in understanding miracles. It is not the possibility of a particular miracle that is troubling but the whole concept of miracles. To establish the credibility of one miracle would not get to the root. The puzzle is with the whole possibility of miracles.
