For this achromatic scarf worked in Intarsia, white stitches peek out of “windows“ in a light and dark gray fabric (see front view at left and back view on page 77). If you’re new to Intarsia and would like to use the alpaca recommended in the pattern for the scarf, I suggest swatching with some scrap yarn first. The alpaca shown here is wonderful but it doesn’t weather ripping out well, so isn’t the best choice when you are first learning.

Karabella Yarns Brushed Alpaca (100%

alpaca; 35 yards / 50 grams): 1 ball each #71 Dark Gray (A), #77 Off White (B),

and #51 Light Gray (C)

Needles

One pair straight needles size US 15 (10 mm)

One double-pointed needle (DPN) size

US 15 (10 mm)

Note: You may use all DPNs if you prefer.

Change needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Gauge

7 sts = 4" (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch (St st)
