3 colours of yarn used: base colour (cream), and 2 contrast colours (deep pink and navy blue).

1.5mm, 2mm and 2.5mm needles and 2-ply wool.

1. Cast on 96 sts with base colour and 2mm needles.

2. Divide equally between 4 needles on first round (24 sts per needle).

3. Work a (K1, P1) cuff for 10 rounds, as given in chart.

4. Continue with leg, following chart pattern. Read each chart once from right to left, starting with right-hand chart, using needles as follows: for first, third and fourth chart repeats use 2mm needles, for second chart repeat use 2.5mm needles, for remainder of sock use 1.5mm needles.

5. Work heel with base colour, noting the variation in location of right and left heel flaps (see Basic Sock Recipe).

6. Maintaining chart pattern, work gusset and foot.

7. Maintaining chart pattern, work toe following Banded Toe Cap and Finishing method (see Basic Sock Recipe).
