Revell: King George V (1/570 scale)

The American Revell company is another of the old-established kit manufacturers, and one with a quite prodigious output. The company catalogues have always shown a strong warship content; regrettably perhaps, from the point of view of the model ship builder-cum-collector, Revell seems never to have settled on a common scale (although there are signs that things may be changing in this regard), whilst the quality of its products tends to be somewhat variable.

The King George V kit is, unfortunately, pretty mediocre fare. It is reasonably accurate in terms of general appearance, and Revell have got the armament fit and colour scheme right for the first half of 1942 (even if the instruction sheet mixes up the 4- and 8-barrelled 2pdrs), but the detailing is lame, boats and anchors are moulded integrally with larger components, the protective plating is outrageously thick and the catapult track is more in keeping with a model railway layout.
