Step 4: Slide out the second cup with a 0. Write 10 raised to the second power (102). This represents 100, which is what is on the cup rims. Notice the pattern: 102 has two 0s.

Step 5: Repeat for the remaining cups. The last cup should be 10 to the sixth power (106), which represents 1,000,000. It has six 0s.

Step 6: Add an eighth blank cup to cover up the powers of 10.

Step 7: Turn the cups over with the original numbers facing away. Draw a new line across the rims to help line the cups up. Put a big decimal point on the rim of the first cup (from the left), followed by a 1 on the second rim. Rotate the cups up slightly and put a decimal point on the first cup’s rim, followed by a 0 on the second cup’s rim, followed by a 1 on the third rim. Repeat as shown until you have filled all the cups’ rims.
