R. Abbahu said: “Why do we blow on a ram’s horn [on Rosh Hashanah]? The Holy One, blessed be He, said: ‘Sound before me a ram’s horn so that I my remember on your behalf the binding of Isaac, the son of Abraham, and account it to you as if you had bound yourselves before me.’”[66]

Some sources, however, go further and hint that Isaac actually died and was subsequently revived:

R. Judah said: “When the blade touched his neck, the soul of Isaac fled and departed, but when he heard his [God’s] voice saying [to Abraham]: ‘Do not raise your hand against the boy’ [Gen. 22:12], his soul returned to his body, and Abraham set him free, and Isaac stood upon his feet. And Isaac knew that in this manner the dead in the future will be quickened. He opened [his mouth], and said: ‘Blessed are you, O Lord, who quickens the dead.’”[67]
