Christ’s Nature

The Old Testament brims with predictions of the nature of Jesus Christ. He would be the Son of God (Psalms 2:7; 1 Chr. 17:11–14; 2 Samuel 7:12–16, fulfilled in Matt. 3:17, 16:16; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:35; 22:70; Acts 13:30–33; John 1:34, 49). He would be One who pre-existed His birth (Micah 5:2, Psalms 102:25; Prov. 8:22–23; Isaiah 9:6–7, 41:4; 44:6; 48:12, fulfilled in Col. 1:17, John 17:5, 24; Rev. 1:1–2; 1:17; 2:8; 8:58; 22:13). He would be called “Lord” (Psalms 110:1; Jer. 23:6, fulfilled in Luke 2:11; Matt. 22:43–45). He would be called Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14, fulfilled in Matt. 1:23). He would be a prophet (Deut. 18:18, fulfilled in Matt. 21:11), a priest (Psalms 110:4, fulfilled in Heb. 3:1), a judge (Isaiah 33:22, fulfilled in John 5:30), and a king (Psalms 2:6, fulfilled in Matt. 27:37). He would receive a special anointing by the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 11:12, fulfilled in Matt. 3:16). And He would have zeal for God’s house—the temple (Psalms 69:9, fulfilled in John 2:15–16).55
