The blind receive their sight (already fulfilled in Matthew 9:27–30)

The lame walk (fulfilled in Matthew 8:5–13;9:2–7)

The lepers are cleansed (Matthew 8:2–3)

The deaf hear (included in Matthew 4:23 and 9:35; later directly in Mark 7:31–37)

The dead are raised (Matthew 9:18–25)

The poor have good news brought to them (Matthew 5:3)

This list consists of five miracles and one non-miraculous sign – the good news being brought to the poor, an event which, like the five kinds of miracles, had always been associated with times of salvation and in particular with the Messiah, at least since the prophet Isaiah (see, for example, Isaiah 26:19; 29:18–20; 35:4–6). And these miracles were an integral part of messianic hope at the time of Jesus. As we already know from Chapter 2, a fragment among the Dead Sea Scrolls found in Qumran 4Q 521, underlines these hopes and expectations, which were shared by many Jews. Here is the text:
