“Your sixty seconds have elapsed,” he said, emerging with a stack of soggy boxes.

“What?”

“You asked to talk for a minute.”

“Did you not hear what I said? Mr Burton is going to tell everyone that you’re a robot!”

“I do not know Mr Burton.”

“Actually, you do – you’ve just forgotten,” said Jess. She tried to explain it all again.

“We were thinking,” said Ali, “if you went round there after school … and helped him … then maybe he won’t tell anyone.”

“And you’ll be able to stay as our teacher,” said Ivana.

We’d hoped Robin would be impressed by our logic, but instead he got angry. “I’m a teacher, not a repair-bot! I have important work to do. We must destroy Marston Manor and make tomorrow a reality today! If you are not here to help, please go away!” Then he dived head first back into the bin.
