Create the Center Squares

1. Refer to Tutorial: Creative Strata to create miniature strata squares for the centers of the coasters. Making strata in miniature is just the same as making larger strata. But you will probably find it easiest to begin with very small pieces. You may choose to piece each coaster center individually or to piece a larger section of strata from which to cut the squares.

2. Trim the strata to create four squares 21⁄2" × 21⁄2" (6.5 × 6.5 cm).

TIP: Creative Reuse

This coaster project is the perfect use for scraps leftover from larger strata projects, pieced or unpieced.
