Submersible pump

What it does:

A submersible pump is basically an impeller that is spun with the use of an electromagnet.

Your hydroponics garden needs the submersible pump in order to bring the nutrient solution upwards from the reservoir to the growing chamber.

What to keep in mind:

You can easily find a submersible pump in many shops selling hydroponics gardening supplies. A number of home improvement stores carry different kinds of submersible pumps as well. Look for one in the garden supplies where the fountain pumps and pond pumps can usually be found.

Cleaning a submersible pump is easy. You can simply take apart its components and give them a thorough cleaning. Remember that you have to clean the pump every once in a while. This ensures that your nutrient solution is able to flow well from the reservoir up to the root zone of your hydroponic herbs and vegetables.

It is best to choose a submersible pump that comes with a built-in filter. If it doesn’t, just make one – cut a small piece of screen that is usually used in furnace filters and then fit it to the pump.
