Perception

Perception, as the word is usually used by educators, physicians, and psychologists, means the ability to transmit stimuli to the brain and interpret them accurately. It involves recognizing a voice as being Mommy’s, a doll as being small enough to fit into a wagon, ice cream as being cold, a picture as representing reality.

Perception includes all of the senses—hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling. But because seeing is the key ability in learning, perception usually refers to the ability to see and to comprehend accurately in the mind.
