The seeds ripen to a light reddish-brown colour and are pointed and roughly conical, 25-45mm (1-1¾") long by 12-18mm (½-¾") wide, often with the leafy scale still attached at the wide end.

In South America, reddish round nodules have been observed on the roots of monkey puzzle, and are believed to host bacteria involved in nitrogen fixation. These nodules haven’t been observed elsewhere (nobody has looked), but they may require a species of bacteria not present in soils outside South America.
