When applying mulch, aim for a 4" layer on your planting area. Donât push the mulch up around the base of your plants. Once youâve spread it, water the mulch lightly so it is moist but not soggy. This will help âlockâ the mulch into position.
GROWING ORGANIC MARIJUANA
At the most basic level, organic gardening means growing your plants without the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. In practice, organic gardening is often an overall approach to growing things that seeks to promote a healthy balance of life in your growing area. Organic gardeners work to naturally improve the soil to create a healthy ecosystem for their plants. This especially makes sense with marijuana because youâll be consuming the result of your labor; itâs common sense that you wouldnât put something on or in your plants that you wouldnât put in your body. Overall, itâs recommended that you grow organically whenever possible. Itâs good for the environment, plus many people swear organic marijuana tastes better.
Some of the basic principles of organic gardening include:
1âImproving your soil naturally. Soil is the basis of all gardening, and healthy soil should be rich with organic material and beneficial bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms. The soil amendments outlined previously in this chapter are all natural improvements.
2âWorking with nature, not against it. This means preventing problems before they occur through a smart garden design. An organic garden is a balanced system with a reduced vulnerability to insects and invasive weeds.
3âStarting with the least toxic solution. Itâs a misconception that organic gardeners donât use any chemicals. They do when necessary; however, they start with the least harmful solution first. If you must use chemicals, only use those that are approved for organic gardening. You can find information about approved organic gardening products online.
