“So you still not talking to Truth?” Jacques asked Emilie.

“Nope. Fuck Truth.” She said adamantly. Truth was that she missed him something terrible, but she was devastated that he’d cheated on her, and was once again preparing to go back to Miami and leave all of the terrible memories of North Carolina behind.

“Emilie you do know that most niggas cheat right?” Jacques kept it a hundred with her. She gave him a fuck that shit look, so he continued. “I mean you know I’m gon’ keep it G with you. I loved Brook, but I cheated from time to time. It’s just some fuck shit that niggas do, and it doesn’t mean that we don’t love you, it just means that we’re not perfect and maybe a little stupid. If you never speak to Truth again, and then you meet someone next year that ends up cheating on you, then what?”

“Fuck niggas, I’m not dating anybody new.” Emilie said stubbornly.

“That’s not realistic.” Jacques was trying to be the voice of reason.

“Whatever, I’m over the shit. Truth and I had a nice run, but like most niggas he had to fuck it up, so it is what it is.”

Jacques nodded his head slowly. If there was a way that he could protect his sister from heart break then he would, but he couldn’t. She had to live and become a woman on her own. There was nothing that he could do to protect her heart. She’d expressed to him that she was going back to Miami, and though he’d miss her, he knew that she had to do what was best for her.

Three days later, Emilie cried as she looked at the two lines on the pregnancy test. This was only the beginning of more heart break to come. Her doorbell rang, and she wiped her tears, suspecting that it was one of her brothers. She didn’t want to trouble them, so she quickly tried to pretend that nothing was wrong. She was both shocked, and agitated to see Truth standing at her doorstep. “What?” She snapped.

Ignoring her attitude, he walked inside. “Why you crying?” He asked observing her face. No matter how much she tried to hide it, he knew her. Emilie rolled her eyes.

“Why do you care?”

“You can be mad, but don’t do that. Don’t act like I don’t care.”

“Well you have a funny way of showing it! I’m going back to Miami. Fuck North Carolina, and fuck this relationship.” She was mostly upset because in the time that they’d been separated, Truth hadn’t reached out to her once. It was as if he could care less that they were apart, and it hurt her to the core.

“Emilie, I can’t make you stay here if you don’t want to. I miss you and I am sorry, but at the end of the day you have to do what makes you happy.”

That’s not what she wanted to hear. She wanted him to beg for her forgiveness. “Whatever! While you running the streets doing God knows what, I’m over here pregnant!”

Truth’s heart dropped.
