Its fatty acids are split roughly in to half strongly emulsifying ones and half weakly emulsifying ones. Because of this, its addition to a bar may require some reduction of another strongly emulsifying oil to retain the same overall emulsifying strength. Lather is significantly thicker and creamier when palm oil is added to a recipe. Usage can vary widely – depending largely on the quantity of other emulsifying oils within the soap. However, around 5-20% was found to be beneficial and to make generally good shampoo bars. The reduced need for other strongly emulsifying oils is a bonus, allowing its addition to actually yield new space for other oils within a recipe. Medium shelf life.
