Message in a Bottle

Hector paddled and the sun burned the fog into patches over the water. Sunshine peeked through for a moment; then mist whirled back like curtains closing. When it opened again, Hector saw two bright pieces of color floating toward him. He stopped rowing and pulled them in.

They were bottles-the wolf spider’s bottles. One was bright purple. The other was red. Hector drained their contents into the water and set them down with his flowers.
