How We Come to Know?
We are approaching a tipping point. The flimsy dots of unfounded GMO propaganda are fading fast. With so much chronic illness prevailing and the increase of available information through the internet, soldiers are converting to scouts. I still cannot imagine what other GMO-intolerant people are doing to cope, if they are not inquisitive or perhaps are unable to dedicate the resources or time needed to find a solution(s) to their ill health. There is an untapped potential in understanding how to deal with our food oppression and other exogenous sources of ill health. I hope this work sparks the necessary conversation so we can learn from other voices of wisdom and experience. We can no longer trust the tainted food and health science that is being presented. We must honor and recognize the various ways we are constructed in order to understand better what knowledge can be transferrable and meaningful to each other. My drive to learn more is perhaps the strongest motivation to compile my story and findings. Fortunately, social media through advanced technologies, has provided us with a forum to be able to conduct large scale conversations across the globe.
Our Western society has come to believe that scientific evidence is the only trustworthy source of information. Yet, there are many ways we come to know. The Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator5 and similarly the Holmes-Ware Spiritual Type,6 describe how people take in and assimilate information and formulate beliefs. The two groupings of opposition include Thinkers, who use head-centered logic versus Feelers, who follow their visceral and somatic (physical) sensations. Then there are those who trust the Tangible through their five senses or through the written works, clear evidence, research or lived experiences versus those who trust the Intangible through their intuition or sense of knowing their truth or following inner guidance with little or no need to validate their knowing among others (Figure 9A). It is likely that many of us use some of each trait at various times.
