How to Do It

Use your browser to go to: chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

Click on the links that say “Check out the How To Get Help page, and the rest of the Documentation.” Use both links to get acquainted with the program. It takes only a few minutes.

Click on the Download tab.

Choose the version for your operating system, and download the software.

Install CHIRP according to the instructions.

If there is no version listed for your operating system, try using the free LiveCD or LiveUSB version. You download it to your computer and install it on a CD or USB drive, then boot from that drive. Instructions on how to do so are included with the package. It’s not as simple as using a version for your operating system, but CHIRP is useful enough to justify the extra time and effort. When you are finished using a Live version of CHIRP, you can re-boot your computer into its normal operating system.

In the next project, we’ll run through how to program your radio using CHIRP.
