6.2 - Root Patterns

The Root Patterns exercise is helpful because it provides us with a way to identify and sequentially play any note anywhere on the fretboard. The root note is typically the starting note in a scale, a bass note in a chord, or tonic note in a key. Though, for this exercise, we will simply think of the root as our starting point.

Having an understanding of how notes move sequentially can help us to move along the neck without feeling hesitant.

There are many guitarists that work tirelessly to memorize every note of every string across the entire fretboard. While some are successful in doing so, others aren’t, and this creates limitations when trying to play songs.
