Whether it is telling the story of a water droplet and tracing its adventure down a mountain side to when it finally reaches the ocean, completing a chart of the current season with family members employing their senses, looking at weather maps in the daily newspaper and predicting weather patterns from them, or reading What Will the Weather Be? by L. DeWitt (1993), each activity encourages students to expand their vocabulary of weather words as well as use their literacy skills. There are so many books, such as My Favorite Time of Year by S. Pearson (1988) and Weather by S. Simon (2006), that can be borrowed from the school library and readily displayed and made available in the classroom. These books can be used throughout the grades with different purposes, because they offer many oral and written opportunities for students to share what is important to them about weather at specific times of the year.
