SOIL REQUIERMENTS:
Lavender needs sandy, loam or gravelly alkaline soil with low fertility but make sure to amend clay. As other plants Lavender loves a well-draining soil. Mixing 40% of regular sand can help increase the soil drainage
PLANTING THE LAVENDER:
If planted outdoors you should create a mound of about 20 inches (50 centimeters), and put a few fist sized rocks on the bottom so you can improve the soil drainage. After you done this now you should dig a hole on top of the mound just deep enough for the plant. Add about 1/2 cup lime juice inside the hole and mix it good with the soil. Now everything is ready for the Lavender root to be buried in the hole with the rest of the plant above the ground of course. For indoors: put few stones in the bottom of the pot for drainage, make the same mix of soil (Potting soil, lime) and fill the pot with it. Dig a hole so the Lavender root can fit inside and plant only the herbâs root inside.
TAKING CARE OF THE LAVENDER PLANT:
Lavender does need a lot of light, sunlight or just from a normal house hold desk lamp placed just about 20 cm above the plant. If you do get sun through the window, make sure to leave it directly exposed to the sunlight and turn it around every couple of hours if possible so the lavender can get sunlight equally from each side but be careful not to expose the plant next to a cold drafty window. Water the herb every time the soil on top feels dry on the touch.
HARVESTING THE LAVENDER HERB:
Lavender should be harvested when you see one or two flowers that are blooming. Regular harvesting helps to keep the plant bushy and healthy.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF THE LAVENDER
One of the main benefits of Lavender is the essential oil made from it, which can be used to calm your nerves, skin disinfection, improve blood circulation, relieve almost any pain and can also treat respiratory problems.
