The Sacred Sounds and Practice of Mantra

Over the years, it has been an honor to be imparted with a series of ancient mantras that were passed down by yogis from thousands of years ago. I must admit that it takes a while to get used to reciting the Sanskrit words and grasping the high-level meaning of the words (as I have been told the sounds of these words are of higher impact than the mere meanings). Over time, I found that the mantras started working on me in a peaceful yet profound way.

I sincerely recommend you start a mantra, or an affirmation of positive words practice. Simple ones you can start with are:

“Aum” or “om.” They can be chanted/recited before and after asanas or anywhere or anytime. You can find meditative “om” chants on YouTube channels.

“So hum” (“I am” in Sanskrit). This one is amazing for balancing, grounding, and connecting to self-worth and self-love. If you prefer, recite, “I am power. I am love. I am strong. I am healed. I am calm. I am exactly where I need to be,” repeatedly out loud and in silence.

“Sat chit nanda” (truth, infinite consciousness, bliss). “Sat ” is pronounced more like “Saat.” To me, these are the most powerful and sacred three Sanskrit words. I honor and practice them with reverence and much sovereignty. Enjoy these three extremely powerful words; they will enhance your vibration and state of being.

Centering affirmations: If there are powerful phrases in your language that are positive in nature, feel free to use them as long as you connect with them while saying, repeating in silence, or writing them out. You can use, “I release all negativity. I breathe in calmness and positivity. I replace fear with curiosity.”
