What kind of ship are you? What makes up your blueprint?

As before, there’s value in reflecting on this step, even if it’s too late to have a hand in it. How were you built? What was your “shipyard” like? Were your builders experts, or amateurs? Were they passionate, or indifferent? The value in this reflection is understanding how your construction has shaped the way you sail. There’s an old saying that there’s blood in the hull of every ship, that the pain and sacrifice inevitable in any large, important undertaking end up baked into the final product. As you think about the process of building the person you are, the person sitting here now, what events do you think altered the final product? What are the elements of your development that you want to compensate and correct for, and what are the things you love and want to lean into?

One last thing. However imperfect the people who raised the ship that is you might have been, I encourage you to extend gratitude to everyone who did their best. No matter how unhappy our history may be, it is good that we are all here, and we all have a path ahead of us. You are worthy of being here. Be grateful for it.
