EMMA:
I just want to continue the thing about what kind of world it is... and they were talking about your personal world of knowledge; but what about your world in your mind9?... and if you go to work, you'll have, like, a different world and a different situation around you when you come back... and they're two different things.
DIANA:
Yeh, I mean... I'd just like to say... because if I went up to my science teacher10 and said, 'Sir, what do you think the most interesting thing in the world is?' he'd probably say, 'Science'. So it depends... it depends what your career is, or something... A vet would probably say animals and their bodies and the way they think and everything.
ANNIE:
Surely your own world is the whole world to you, and you don't have any knowledge past your own world11, but that is your whole world, to you as a person.
DANIEL:
Well, I think that in terms of what you like best, I think, you can reach a conclusion, because you can say, 'Oh, I like swimming the most, and that really interests me more than anything else,' but in terms of the whole world, I don't think you can.
TOM:
I think that when you're saying about interesting, sometimes you could say something like a feeling you have, when you think it's really interesting and you want to find out about it, or you could say the most interesting thing is the thing that you want to do and that, sort of, like... makes you feel good, and you think it's interesting how it makes you feel good. It's sort of, like, two different ways12. Also, on the whole world, maybe in... when it says the most interesting thing in the world, it doesn't say your world, so you couldn't define it, because everybody has a different opinion, and it could also cause13, you know, like fights... If you try to say, 'I think this is the best'...' No, no, this is the best.'
MATTHEW:
Emma said there's a different world at work, but, surely â or wherever you go - but surely it's your own... it's still your own personal world. I think if we use 'world' as like, I don't know, a collective noun, and ev... all your experience (your philosophy) â that might be a good word - I don't think it's a different world at all at work14. I mean, you could still say, 'Oh well, that's the way that the machinery works at work â it's more interesting than the way I make toast in the morning.' I still think it would be your whole world.
NICK:
I'd just like to refer back to, sort of, the mediaeval ages when there were many hundreds of small villages around the country, and the villagers, they knew nothing apart, or very little, apart from the village life, sweeping, cleaning up and looking after Granny. They wouldn't have a vague knowledge of foreign lands or animals unless it's brought with a messenger.
