C.PRAY WITH OTHERS

I love to pray alone with God. This is where intimacy with God is developed, but there is something about praying together with others—whether with one other person, in a small group, or in a large prayer setting—it seems there is additional power and advancements that can be made. Praying with others in a small-group setting has blessed my prayer life in profound ways.

When I think about the prayer groups I have been a part of, I cannot overstate their importance. When I was in college, I was in several prayer groups where we sought the Lord and then went out to local bars, beaches or the streets to share the gospel. While I was in Bible School, I attended prayer school and not only was I taught about prayer, but more importantly, I caught the “spirit of prayer.” When our kids were little, I was in a Moms in Touch prayer group with several other mothers, and together we prayed for our kids on a regular basis. In our church, we have offered a variety of opportunities for small and large groups to meet together to pray. I can’t imagine my life or ministry without having had those experiences to pray with others. I encourage you to look for opportunities in your church or small group to pray with other believers.

1.Acts 1:13-15

“And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty).”

The early church started with a large prayer meeting!

How many people are gathered to pray?

2.Acts 4:24-31

“So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: ‘Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said:’ ‘Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the LORD and against His Christ.’ For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.’ And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
