28. With a thong in my heart

The right swimwear can flatter even the most dimply behind. Follow these four rules, and you can still get almost-naked with confidence.

1. Rebalance. If you’re bottom heavy, rebalance your silhouette with mix and match. To minimise a curvaceous bum, try a dark solid colour on the bottom and put the colour and pattern on top. Balance out a flat chest with a bandeau style bikini.

2. Disguise. Fake tan is a must. Look for suntan cream with fake tan base and pack an aftersun with a tan prolonger. The browner those cheeks look, the smoother they’ll appear. Watch the pattern on your swim-wear. Large motifs tend to make you look fleshier than you are, so make sure any motif is smaller than your fist. String ties are actually more flattering than too tight cuts that make hips and thighs bulge over the top. Flippy skirt bottoms are great for camouflaging thick cellulitey thighs.

3. Enhance. Put your other assets on display. Give yourself a great pre bikini shape up by applying some bust firming creams. The results tend to be temporary but they can help firm up a sagging décolletage and boost elasticity. Draw more attention to your boobs with padded bras, frilly bits, bright colours, horizontal stripes, or try underwired shapes with bows or flowers for extra oomph.

4. Distract. Accessories are a great way to distract the eye from the bits you don’t want to display. Invest in a flowing kaftan, stylish beach bag, and dainty jewellery. A pair of wedge-soled sandals or espadrilles gives you extra inches to make you feel leggy and willowy – and instantly more attractive. Paint your toe-nails beautifully, blow dry your hair or pin up tendrils for water-baby glamour.

Here’s an idea for you…

Capitalise on exotic fresh fruits when at your holiday buffet. Fill your plate with yummy papaya and pineapple; they contain a compound called bromelain, which can help beat bloating.

Defining idea…

‘An optimist is a girl who mistakes a bulge for a curve.’
