Perennials with lobed or finely divided, gray or green leaves and pink, purple, or white flowers in spring and summer. Spread slowly or vigorously by rhizomes and sometimes also by seed. Many geraniums need regular water. Those listed here thrive with moderate to occasional or infrequent water with good drainage in cool sun to part shade. WUCOLS: L/M

Geranium ×cantabrigiense ‘Biokovo’

G. ×cantabrigiense ‘Biokovo’, 6–10 inches tall and slowly spreading, with dark green leaves and white flowers tinged pink at the base of each petal. Selection of a natural hybrid between G. macrorrhizum and G. dalmaticum, both native to mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. Occasional summer water. USDA: 4–9 Sunset: 1–24

G. incanum, carpet geranium, less than 1 foot tall and fast spreading, with finely cut, green leaves and small, lavender flowers. Native to South Africa. Self-sows readily and can be weedy. Best along the coast with infrequent summer water. May be short lived inland. USDA: 9–11 Sunset: 14–24
