Oranges

The sweet orange is the king of the citrus family. They can be pruned as trees or as large shrubs, and their glossy foliage makes them a great landscape plant throughout the year. Although the trees can grow fairly large, you can easily prune them to keep fruits within picking range. Dwarf varieties of your favorite sweet oranges can be planted in pots to enliven a patio or porch and keep fruit within easy reach.

Most oranges bear fruit in fall and winter, but Valencia oranges bear fruit from late winter to early summer. The good news is that unless you are expecting freezing weather, oranges can stay on the tree for months, and cool weather will actually help the sugars develop, making them taste sweeter.
