Jamie originally created Quastolia as a country for ants. The drawings were initially based on his backyard and later on the area surrounding Waterford, Michigan. When he was in the ninth grade, his teacher allowed him to do a report on his imaginary country for a class project. He completed a nineteen-page paper outlining all of the details including Quastolia’s electoral process, military structure, and major religions. His teacher was impressed by the result, writing:

What can I say! After sixteen years of teaching, this is the first time I have ever read anything so creative and different. You gave it considerable thought. Would you like to explain this to class?

Jamie responded by writing, “No way!” deciding it might not be a good idea to stand in front of his classmates and explain his country for ants. Today, however, Jamie documents the project on the Internet. The map shown here refers to the landmass as PUKQ, or the Protected United Kingdom of Quastolia. Jamie admits that the acronym was probably the result of his teenage sense of humor.
