In 1928 Frida painted her sister Cristina, who died on 7 February 1964. Cristina was also Diego's favorite model; her figure inspired two of the monumental nudes adorning the hall of honor in the Secretariat of Health. In 1929 she posed first for the figure of Knowledge, surely qualified as idyllic and malicious. Later her small body, with its rounded and gentle forms, was represented in Life, the figure looking down from the hall's ceiling. It has been well pointed out that there is nothing pornographic or voluptuous in the curves of those nudes, in those immodestly painted bodies that symbolize the knowledge of life, health, strength, purity, and continence.
