Jaw and Lip Movement

Let us discuss in detail the jaw and lip movement so you can visualize and replicate it. To move up an octave, our jaw moves forward and up slightly, causing the air to be directed upwards. Our throat should feel open throughout this process. The lips will obviously move along with the jaw and will guide the airstream to its precise destination.

Imagine your lips as a soft cushion, and that you need not stress them to direct the air. You will only need to alter their shape while keeping them relaxed. Let some space remain between your teeth and your upper lip. Another fine visualization is to imagine that the inside part of your lip (the moist part) is from where you direct the airstream. This will not only remove excess tension in the lips but also contribute to lip embouchure flexibility.
